Frequently Asked Questions

Consult with your skin therapist at Illuminaris to determine which peel would be right for you.

If you have sensitive skin, your skin therapist will start you off with a lighter peel and slowly graduate you to higher strengths. Chemical peels reach a certain depth of your epidermis, so certain peel may not be suitable for darker skin tones.

Allergies to certain ingredients may deter you from the peel. At the consultation, your skin therapist will go over your allergies to find the right peel that will meet your skin concerns.

• Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 1 week before the peel.

• Avoid using self tanners, masks, scrubs or exfoliating agents 48 hours before your appointment.

• Stop using AHA, BHA, & vitamin A topical products 48 hours before the peel.

• Do not wax / shave facial hair 48 hours before your treatment.

• Notify us if you have a history of cold sores, fever blisters or herpes outbreak anywhere on the face prior to application.

You may experience mild redness or tingling after your peel. You will notice mild to moderate peeling of the skin 1-3 days after your treatment. Reactions such as redness, peeling, swelling and blemishes are expected in your first few weeks of use, so there is no need for concern.

• Do not rub, pick or irritate the skin.

• Moisturize the skin adequately.

• Makeup can be used - mineral makeup can be applied immediately.

• Avoid excessive sweating for the first 24 hours as it can irritate the skin.

• Avoid using Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) based products for 24 hours as it may sting.

• Minimize sun exposure and avoid tanning for 7-10 days after your treatment. A broad spectrum sunscreen must be applied daily every 2 hours.

It is recommended to have a series of 6-8 treatments every 3-4 weeks to get optimal results.

During your chemical peel, you may experience a warm, tingling sensation. After your peel, your skin may feel tight and slightly warm.

Reactions such as redness, peeling, swelling and blemishes are expected in your first few weeks of use, so there is no need for concern.

Chemical peels are not suitable for sensitive skin types. We do offer a milder peel for sensitive skin, but a patch test well be required.

It is not suitable if you are:

• Currently taking Accutane or have within the past 6 months.

• Pregnant or lactating.

• Have a tendency to keloid / scar.

• Have herpes simplex - you will be more prone to infection.

•  Are HIV/AIDS positive.

• Are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation.

• Don't fully understand the procedure and are not willing to accept the risk, disclaimer and/or limitation involved in the healing process.

Ultrasound therapy for your skin is a non-invasive and effective way to improve the appearance and health of your skin.

During the treatment, a handheld device is used to apply ultrasound waves to the skin, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin fibres by penetrating deep into the skin. These are essential proteins that keep your skin looking youthful and healthy.

This procedure helps to:

• Improve the tone and texture of your skin.

• Reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores.

• Increase cellular turnover.

• Promote cellular renewal and repair.

• Tone muscles and tighten skin.

• Increase blood circulation.

• Encourage lymphatic drainage.

• Combat puffiness and swelling.

• Reduce the appearance of cellulite,

• Improve acne.

• Fade dark eye circles and old age spots.

• Repair scar damage.

• Improve skin care product penetration.

This process is safe, painless and gentle and can even be used by sensitive skin types. The sound waves produced by the ultrasound resonate well above your hearing level and move too quickly for your nerve endings to register. Ultrasound therapy is completely painless and requires no downtime.

Light Emitting Diode (LED) Therapy works to repair, replenish and rejuvenate the skin, evening out tone, treating blemishes and even managing pain. It boosts collagen production and is ideal for treating active acne. It uses colour waves (red, blue & yellow) to penetrate the skin's epidermis. This non-invasive treatment is pain-free and relaxing, so it is suitable for all ages and skin types.

RED LED - helps with signs of aging by activating cellular metabolism, promoting collagen production.

BLUE LED - kills bacteria that causes acne, making this service good for reducing breakouts, blackheads & whiteheads. It acts as a decongestant and purifies acne prone and problem skin while helping to normalize oil production.

YELLOW LED - also used for acne and skin rejuvenation, but has healing functions to treat wounds, pain relief, muscle & joint pain and arthritis.

Cold therapy is a beauty tool that is designed to cool and soothe the skin and is used to reduce inflammation, close pores, calm irritated skin and enhance circulation. When used in conjunction with a serum or moisturizer, a cold skin wand can help to increase the absorption of these products, leaving your skin feeling hydrated and rejuvenated.
